Correction and Retraction Policy
Jurnal Prima Medika Sains, published and managed by the Institute for Research and Community Service (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat—LPPM), Universitas Prima Indonesia, is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record in Public Health, Clinical Medicine, Tropical Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.
When errors, ethical violations, or concerns regarding the reliability of published research are identified, the journal will assess the matter carefully and determine the appropriate action based on the nature, severity, and potential impact of the issue.
1. Corrections (Erratum/Corrigendum)
Corrections may be issued when errors are identified in a published article but do not invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the research.
Examples include:
-
Typographical errors or inaccuracies in published text.
-
Incorrect author names, affiliations, or other publication details.
-
Errors in tables, figures, references, or data presentation that require clarification.
-
Minor methodological or reporting inaccuracies that can be corrected without undermining the overall validity of the research.
Requests for correction will be evaluated by the editorial team. When a correction is approved, the journal will publish a correction notice identifying the affected content and explaining the changes made.
The correction notice will be linked to the original article, where technically possible, to ensure transparency and enable readers to identify the corrected information.
2. Retractions
A retraction may be issued when reliable evidence demonstrates that a published article contains serious problems that compromise the reliability, validity, or ethical integrity of the research.
Grounds for retraction may include:
-
Data fabrication or falsification: Inventing, manipulating, or misrepresenting research data, clinical observations, laboratory findings, or other scientific evidence.
-
Serious methodological errors: Errors in research design, calculations, data analysis, or interpretation that invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
-
Extensive plagiarism: Substantial unattributed use of another person's work or other serious forms of plagiarism.
-
Duplicate or redundant publication: Inappropriate republication of substantially overlapping findings without adequate disclosure.
-
Research ethics violations: Serious breaches involving ethical approval, informed consent, patient confidentiality, or the ethical conduct of research involving human participants or animals.
-
Other forms of serious misconduct: Proven violations that materially undermine the credibility or integrity of the published article.
Before making a retraction decision, the editorial team will assess the available evidence, seek clarification from relevant parties when appropriate, and conduct further inquiries as necessary. The journal may consult independent experts or the relevant research institution when the circumstances require additional investigation.
A retraction does not necessarily imply that every author was involved in misconduct. Decisions will be based on the available evidence and the circumstances of the case.
3. Retraction Procedure and Notices
Retraction procedures will be conducted with reference to the relevant recommendations and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
When an article is retracted:
-
The journal will publish a formal retraction notice explaining the reasons for the retraction as clearly as possible.
-
The retraction notice will be linked to the original article.
-
The original article will generally remain accessible to preserve the transparency and traceability of the scholarly record.
-
The article will be clearly marked as “RETRACTED”, including an appropriate watermark or equivalent notice on the article file where technically feasible.
-
The retraction notice will identify the affected article and provide sufficient information for readers to understand the reason for the action.
The journal will seek to ensure that the retraction notice and the original article are clearly distinguishable to prevent readers from inadvertently treating retracted findings as reliable evidence.
4. Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief and editorial team of Jurnal Prima Medika Sains are responsible for evaluating correction and retraction requests and determining the appropriate editorial response.
Authors, readers, reviewers, research institutions, and other relevant parties may report suspected errors or concerns regarding published articles through the journal’s official editorial contact channels.
All concerns will be assessed fairly and confidentially, with due consideration for research integrity, the rights of the parties involved, and the interests of the scientific community.
5. Commitment to Publication Integrity
Through this policy, Jurnal Prima Medika Sains is committed to correcting the scientific record whenever necessary and addressing serious publication concerns in a responsible, transparent, and timely manner.
The journal recognizes that accurate publication records are essential to evidence-based clinical practice, public health decision-making, biomedical research, and the advancement of scientific knowledge.
This policy is informed by the publication ethics principles and retraction guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
