Conflict of Interest

Conflict of Interest

1. Introduction

JUSIKOM: Jurnal Sistem Informasi dan Ilmu Komputer, published by Universitas Prima Indonesia, is committed to transparency, fairness, and integrity in the publication process. This policy explains how conflicts of interest are identified, disclosed, and managed by authors, reviewers, and editors, in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

2. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when a financial, professional, personal, or other relationship could influence, or could reasonably be perceived to influence, the conduct, reporting, evaluation, or publication of a manuscript. A conflict of interest does not necessarily prevent a manuscript from being published, but it must be disclosed openly.

Examples of conflicts of interest include:

  • Financial interests, such as employment, consultancy, stock ownership, honoraria, patents, or research funding from organizations related to the subject of the manuscript.
  • Professional or personal relationships, such as collaboration, close friendship, family ties, or rivalry with the authors or with those affected by the research.
  • Institutional or academic affiliations that may influence the research or its evaluation.
  • Strongly held personal, political, or ideological beliefs related to the subject of the manuscript.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors must disclose all relevant conflicts of interest and sources of financial support for the research at the time of submission. If there is no conflict of interest, authors should state this explicitly, for example: "The authors declare no conflict of interest." Authors are also required to inform the editorial office if a conflict of interest arises or becomes known after submission or publication.

4. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must decline to review a manuscript if they have a conflict of interest, such as a recent collaboration, a close personal or professional relationship, or a competing interest in the work, and must inform the editor accordingly. Reviewers must not use any information obtained during the review process for personal advantage.

5. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors and members of the editorial board must recuse themselves from handling any manuscript with which they have a conflict of interest, including manuscripts authored by themselves, their colleagues, family members, or institutions. Such manuscripts will be handled by another editor who has no conflict of interest, and the decision will be made independently of the editor concerned.

6. Handling of Undisclosed Conflicts

If a conflict of interest that was not disclosed is identified, the editorial team will investigate the matter. Depending on the circumstances, the journal may request clarification from the parties concerned, reject the manuscript, or, if it has been published, issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction. Serious cases may be handled in accordance with the journal's policy on allegations of research misconduct.

7. Declaration in Published Articles

Where relevant, the conflict of interest statement and the funding information provided by the authors will be published with the article so that readers can take them into account when evaluating the work.

8. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it remains consistent with current publication ethics standards and the journal's editorial practices.
