Prolonged Labor, Asphyxia Incidence in NewbornsAbstract
Background: Prolonged labor is one of the intrapartum risk factors for asphyxia in newborns. The longer the labor, the more oxygen transport from the mother to the fetus is disrupted. The higher the fetal morbidity and mortality and the more frequent asphyxia due to prolonged labor itself. Research Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the Relationship between Prolonged Labor and the Incidence of Asphyxia in Newborns at Zainal Abidin Hospital, Banda Aceh in 2025. Research Method: This type of research is an analytical study with a case control approach, with a population of 324 babies and a sample of 89 babies taken using random sampling techniques. Research Results: From the results of the study conducted by the author, it was found that 89 babies had asphyxia (<7), 59 babies were born with prolonged labor, and the results of the chi square test showed that there was a significant relationship between prolonged labor and the incidence of asphyxia in newborns (p = 0.001, OR = 2.625). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between prolonged labor and the incidence of asphyxia in newborns at Zainal Abidin Band Aceh Regional Hospital in 2025.
