Background: MDG (Millennium Development Goals) supports good umbilical cord care as one of the efforts to prevent neonatal infections, especially due to infection. Proper umbilical cord care, keeping it dry and clean, is the key to achieving the MDG target which leads to a decrease in infant mortality. Lack of maternal knowledge in caring for the umbilical cord causes mothers to use traditional medicine, allowing the development of clostridium tetani which can cause infection in neonates.
Objective: To determine the level of knowledge of postpartum mothers about umbilical cord care for newborns in the Alue Bilie Health Center Work Area, Darul Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency in 2025.
Research method: this study uses an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach with a Proportional Systematic Random Sampling sampling technique with a sample size of 42 people, data collection using an umbilical cord care questionnaire. The time of this study was conducted on May 1 to May 20, 2025 with univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi square test.
Research results: most respondents had given birth more than once (multiparous) namely 25 people (59.5%). The level of respondent knowledge about umbilical cord care was in the Good category as many as 20 respondents (47.6%) where 26 people understood how to care for the umbilical cord.
Conclusion: the results of this study indicate that the knowledge of postpartum mothers in the Alue Bilie Health Center area regarding umbilical cord care is in the good category.
Recommendation: for the research location, it is hoped that health workers can minimize the incidence of neonatal infection due to improper umbilical cord care by providing education to postpartum mothers shortly before the mother goes home
