Abstract

In helping to improve the quality of life of diabetic patients, palliative services and home care are needed. Palliative care is an approach to improve the quality of life of patients and families in response to life-threatening diseases, by alleviating suffering from pain and providing physical, psychosocial and spiritual support that starts from the time of diagnosis to the end of the patient's life (WHO, 2017). The purpose of this study is that cadres have knowledge and skills in promoting the prevention or awareness of DM disease and are able to treat DM patients in the community who experience physical and psychological problems and then teach to patients and families. The methods used in the activity go through a series of stages, including counseling/education, training, and mentoring. The community was formed through several activities, namely: coordination with village administrators, education, and community leaders providing health services on Palliative care, palliative care for DM patients, providing rewards for the community, providing door prizes after health service activities for DM patients, providing rewards for cadres. The results achieved after participating in counseling and discussions in the kampong community of Tanjung Gusta Village, especially DM patients, know how to palliative care to improve the quality of life.
