HIV is the number one killer infectious disease in the world. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017, 940,000 people died because of HIV. There were an estimated 36.9 million people living with HIV at the end of 2017 with 1.8 million people becoming newly infected in 2017 globally. More than 30% of all new HIV infections globally are estimated to occur among adolescents aged 15 to 25 years. Followed by children infected at birth growing up to be teenagers who have to deal with their HIV positive status. Combining the two, there are 5 million adolescents living with HIV (WHO, 2017). In 2017, the incidence of new HIV and AIDS infections in adolescents in ASIA and the Pacific showed that there were 250,000 adolescents living with HIV and AIDS. New HIV infections have decreased by 14% since 2010. There has been a 39% decrease in people dying from HIV & AIDS.
