Abstract
Spiritual health is a critical dimension of holistic care for patients with chronic illness, yet it remains underaddressed in conventional healthcare settings. Families serve as the primary support system for patients; however, many lack the knowledge and skills to provide meaningful spiritual support. This community service program aimed to improve family members' understanding and practical skills in supporting the spiritual health and quality of life of chronic illness patients in Kelurahan Bagan Deli Belawan. The program was conducted on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Kelurahan Bagan Deli Belawan, involving families of chronic illness patients. Methods included interactive health lectures, discussion and question-and-answer sessions, and empathic communication role-play simulations. Educational content covered the concept of spiritual health, psychospiritual needs of chronic patients, barriers to spiritual support, empathic communication principles, and practical spiritual support techniques applicable at home. Results showed an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of spiritual health in patient care, enhanced empathic communication skills, and heightened awareness of the family's role as a spiritual support system. Nurse-led family education and empowerment is an effective strategy for holistically improving patient quality of life
