Abstract

ABSTRACT
Each laboratory must adopt a safety guideline or operational guideline that identifies known hazards and their
potential, detailed practices and procedures to eliminate or minimize potential dangers. Preliminary observational
data found that some laboratory staff were still not compliant in applying the Standard Operating Procedures
correctly, such as not wearing gloves during a patient's blood test. Laboratory personnel are often punctured by
needles when taking blood samples or when closing syringes. Officers are often exposed to blood sample spills,
broken test tubes, and broken glass objects when working. This research was conducted in the Laboratory Unit of the
Haji Medan Hospital which aims to determine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of laboratory staff
regarding Standard Operating Procedures with work accident prevention measures. This type of research is analytic
descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The sample of this study was 20 laboratory workers at Haji Medan Hospital.
The results showed that there was a significant relationship between knowledge (p value= 0.009) and attitude (p
value= 0,000) of laboratory personnel regarding Standard Operating Procedures with work accident prevention
measures at Haji Medan Hospital. It is expected that laboratory workers to increase efforts to prevent work accidents,
compliance in implementing SOP so that work accidents do not occur that harm themselves and patients.
